“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease: where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” -1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Today is the day of love. People all around the world show their family, friends and loved ones how much they truly love one another through flowers, chocolate or a simple hand written letter. Others go above and beyond to show them how much they are loved.
What if you made all this effort to show a stranger your love for them?
This is exactly what God wants us to do. He wants us to give the tanks full of love He gives us and give it to someone else, whether it be a complete stranger or a close friend. Show people that they matter. Show them that God loves them and so do you. Show them that no matter their past or the sins they have committed, God loves them unconditionally.
I was listening to Pete Wilson today, the pastor at Cross Point church in Nashville, TN, and he was describing how our love is conditional. We love someone based on ifs and buts and he is so right. I find myself judging others on what they have done in the past and how they live their life and it doesn’t match up with mine. And as I’m sitting there judging them for their past, I’m creating sin in my present that will soon become my past and that is not what love looks like, let alone feels like. Love is unconditionally loving someone no matter their flaws, just like Jesus loves us. Imagine if the world loved everyone no matter their flaws, no matter where they came from, no matter their sins. Imagine sharing our tanks full of love with strangers and loved ones on this very day and every other day of the year…it is tremendously heart warming.
So today and every other day, I challenge you to fill up your tanks full of love and give them to anyone and everyone you encounter throughout your days. Show them the presence of God.
I love you all and Happy Valentine’s Day!
